- and what kind of website do you need?
235 million people in North America use the internet today - 70.2% of the total population.
If a person doesn't have a computer or internet access, they can visit the public library, the local hot spot, bus depot or recreation centre and spend a few hours online for just a few dollars.
More and more often people are choosing the internet as a resource - to find an address or map (google maps), to find out movies and movie times, to check out store hours, to find phone numbers.
If you have a business, you need to have a web presence. This could be a website that acts as a simple colour brochure with 2-3 pages explaining who you are, what you do, and how customers may contact you. Or it could be much more. It all depends on what you need.
Your initial meeting with a web designer will establish quite easily what kind of website you will be needing for your business. The designer will then put together a quote and give you an estimated time-line.
Building websites is a lot like building a house. First the design, then the architectural plans, then the long construction phase, final finishing touches and then launch day.
A typical small business website will take about a month to launch. If there is a storefront, or custom design, or special features of course, the time will be longer.
A simple website can cost as little as $500 with a $100 annual hosting fee. Most websites run between $1000-1500.00 which will include domain name, one year's hosting, multiple emails, instruction on your administration area, and free support for 3 months.
