Years ago, search engine optimization (SEO) used to be a highly time-consuming and specialized work. Websites needed to be submitted to hundreds of search engines and often extreme measures were taken (such as creating multiple 'gateway' entrance pages to a single website) in order to increase your chances of coming out close to the top fold.
Today all this is in the past. A website can easily reach the top of a google search page within a month or two of launch. Close attention to content, page names, keywords and link popularity are the key.
