Test of Metal
The Test of Metal is an annual mountain bike event that brings over one million dollars into the community each year in June. Over 300 people volunteer to help make the event a success. Extensive print and radio exposure, a generous complement of sponsorships, and the thousand participants themselves, their familes and their friends all combine to make the Test of Metal an extremely high profile event.
The new website needed a design that exressed the carefree nature of mountain bikers, it was important it reflect a sense of community, and at the same time it needed to be a useful tool providing accurate information to the many people wanting to 'test their mettle' in Squamish next year.
The registration alone presented a huge challenge. Thousands of people will be sitting at their computers on January 1, with a finger hovering over the 'Online Entry' button waiting for 6:00 pm. Last year the entire 800 spots sold out in under 48 minutes. This year we expect it to be much less.
The new site incorporates some interactive features which will hopefully entice participants to comment on the news, submit their stories in a 'What's Your Story?' section or upload their Rider Profiles.
There will also be a blog where race director Cliff Miller can type his thoughts, and different Test Pilots will be able to manage their own sections and post news or updates.
The photo gallery, always a challenge with each new site, incorporates Flickr in a unique way allowing us to import images from a flickr gallery.
